So this morning we took Merlin our narrowboat to Calcutt Boats for the engine rebuild so we are spending around 3 weeks on Gwynevere our camper van. She is an old bird so we are going to take it slowly and make lots of stops on our journey. The rough plan is below that it may changed as we go along:
- 16th August - travel to Haverfordwest to visit family.
- 19th August - travel to Abergavenny to Rivers Edge campsite
- 21st August - travel to Lydney, Gloucestershire to the Black Smith Arms campsite
- 24th August - travel to Cardiff to visit Lisa and Liam
- 26th August - travel to the New Forest
- 29th August - travel to Worthing
- 30th and 31st August - meet up with Abi and Debbie for Ladies Day and Fontwell Race Course
- 1st September - still to be decided
We wanted to get away from Ventnor early but it took much longer to sort the narrowboat out so we eventually got on the road at about midday. We had about a 4 and a half hour journey so we set the satnav for Haverfordwest avoiding the motor ways however that was a mistake as the roads were so narrow and windy that the journey took much longer than anticipated. We eventually got to Hereford at around 4pm but the road was closed due to an accident so we followed the diversion for a while but it was down very narrow lanes so we made the decision to head for the main road toward Rhyader and pick up the A38 that way. This added a good hour onto our journey.
We finally got to Haverfordwest at about 8pm, we were both exhausted so we headed for the local Morrisons and bought a take out Indian meal and a box of wine and headed to my Dad's house. We were planning to stay in the camper van and just use the house for showers but eventually ended up staying in the house.
