23rd May 2024 - Day 3

Published on 24 May 2024 at 15:34

We woke up to a lovely day, not sunny but dry and not too windy.  John decided to call the Canal River Rescue about the overheating engine just in case it was a serious problem.  They confirmed that they would come out in the afternoon so we decided to stay at the Colwich Lock mooring for the day.  It gave me a chance to do some washing and we took the dogs for a lovely long walk along the canal to the next lock.  So a lazy day on the canal just chilling.  We had some lovely sheep in the field to keep us company for the day, not sure what breed but they were very big with long horns.  River Canal Rescue came at around midday and they told us that the water pump was broken and needed replacing.  The engineer was going to head back to the depot to see if he had one in stock.   As we were confined to Colwich for the rest of the day we walked into Colwich village and then into LIttle Hayward.  We found two nice pubs but both were shut until 4pm so we headed back to the boat for a spot of lunch.  At around 3pm the Canal River Rescue came back to fit the new pump as he had one in stock and so by 4pm our engine was back up and working.  Thankfully we can continue our journey tomorrow.  We have also been having a few problems with keeping our batteries topped up to keep all our appliances working.  We have been trying to decide whether to fit solar panels to the roof or to buy a generator.  After much deliberation and advice we decided to opt for both, so we ordered a 2KW Generator which will arrive tomorrow and we have contacted a company to come to fit solar panels as soon as we are back at the Marina.  I said this journey was to iron out all the teething problems before starting our continuous cruising next year and we are learning new things every day to improve life on board.  We decided to walk back to LIttle Hayward and have a drink at the Red Lion as it was a dog friendly pub.  The pub was very nice and the landlord and the customers were very friendly.  We had two drinks and headed back to the boat for supper. Then a cosy night in front of the tv.
