27th May 2024 - Day 7

Woke to bright sunshine this morning so got up and walked the dogs in a nearby field that the farmer allowed you to use.  Eren loved it!  In some places the grass was so long that you couldn’t see her and then she would bounce up and run around.  Back to the boat for breakfast and then we headed out onto the canal, heading for Gailey Wharf.  There was sunshine to start but then it turned to showers for most of the day but we soldiered on regardless.  We cruised for over 4 hours today but I had the pleasure of 7 locks on this part of the journey.  We managed to moor up at Penkridge to get rid of the rubbish, fill with water and empty the toilet.  We finally got to Gailey Wharf around 3pm, both a bit exhausted but in a nice way.  We had a quiet afternoon on the boat then we walked down the A5 to the Spread Eagle pub for a glass of wine and cider with the dogs.  It was ok for a Marston's but we had to sit outside as the dog friendly area was full but it was a pleasant evening.  We walked back to the boat for supper.  There was also a lovely round canal shop which sold souvenirs that you can visit.  We were not alone today as lots of boats had moored at the visitor moorings at Gailey Wharf.  My back suffered a bit from the locks but I will get back into the swing of it again. Managed to get a nice film of John coming into the locks.
