So today was day 2 of our trip to Calcutt Boats at Napton on the HIll.  The boat had gone well yesterday despite a poorly engine so we were hoping for another good day today.  The weather was beautiful, with the sun shining.  We set off nice and early so that we could hopefully get through the locks quickly with no problems.   We planned a fairly short journey today to Glascote Locks but as the boat was going along nicely we decided to see if we could keep going until we got to the visitor moorings at Polesworth.  The canal was looking especially beautiful today and the trip towards Fazeley Junction was very pretty.  I have posted a number of pictures below of the canal along with a couple of pill boxes that we saw along the way.  We also went over the aquaduct with the River Tame which again looked beautiful in the sunshine.

As we went through Hopwas Woods there were a number of danger signs warning us that the woods area  military firing range so no chance of mooring near the woods.

We got to Fazeley Junction at around 10.30am and took the Birmingham and Fazeley arm towards Tamworth.  The junction was not too busy.  However once we joined the canal there were quite a few narrow passing places and we even managed to get grounded on the silt in one place but managed to free the boat quite quickly.

We got to Glascote Locks at around 11.30, only two locks so we hoped to get through these quickly but there was a queue.  Three boats waiting to go up and three boats waiting to come down. Whilst it makes the locks easier to manage it does take much longer so we spent at least an hour at the locks.  A good opportunity to take the dogs for a quick walk.

Once through the locks we headed for Polesworth, passing Alvecote Marina.  Due to the delay at the locks it was around a 6 hour cruise today which was a bit too long in the heat but we will have a quieter day tomorrow.

We managed to get a good mooring at Polesworth right next door to a large park so ideal for walking the dogs tonight and tomorrow before heading off.  A relaxing afternoon on the boat and a lovely roast dinner to end the day.
